Easter Projects

Aren't these beautiful? The boy scouts needed easter treats for a bake sale so I immediately went to trusty Martha. I was so set on this chocolate egg idea, I considered buying a rotary drill fitted with a 3/8-inch bit just to do the project. I wised up, called my sis, and she directed me to familyfun.com. So cute! I love their ideas, they are much more kid oriented.

One day these eggs will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine.

But this is what the boy scouts got. You can go to the website, but you don't need the recipe really. I cooked a cake mix in two oven-safe bowls, cut out a crater on top for the candy, dyed the coconut with food coloring, and added a pipe cleaner for the handle. Voila.

Shut. Up. Are you telling me that it is possible to drill a hole into an egg and then fill it with chocolate and let it harden...and then it's a perfectly shaped chocolate surprise when you crack it open from it's real egg shell?

Oh, I am doing this. Bless you.

Yes, yes, they are beautiful. Ok...now I'm going to get that drill. There's a instructional video on marthastewart.com you should watch. And..uh..it takes a few days to let the shells dry before you add the chocolate. But it doesn't have to be an easter thing... :) I should have posted this earlier in the week for those of you with the right tools. Oh! You could use a hair dryer!

Wow, Ashley that looks pretty good, how do you make the egg safe to eat since it did have egg inside at one time? I dont want to get you hopes up but we could be moving back to kansas city if things go ok with the project bach is working on getting the deal to go through and if it does we would be closer than we are now and be able to meet up once in a while.

You have to sanitize the eggs in boiling water before you dye them. I think they added vinegar or something to the boiling water as well--it's all on the marthastewart.com website.

Sorry, sanitize the egg SHELLS after you drain out the egg inside.
