I Think To Myself

I love mornings when the kid wakes up at the crack of dawn then falls back asleep on my chest for another hour. I can't sleep with the wiggly thing on me, so I just thought. Here was the train of thoughts this morning:

"The Tao of Pooh. I like the idea of Taoism, but is it so wrong to want to gain knowledge. Even if it is just to be wise or appear knowledgeable? Look at Ken Jennings. It's weird my favorite color right now is green. My 5-yr old self would be so upset. Tums. Tum Tum Tum Tums. I love that Tums spelled backwards is smut. 'What's a little boy like you doing with big boy smut like this?' (10 points and a free lunch when we're in the same city to whoever can name that movie first.)

Abbey's skin is like porcelain. Curse those hours spent at the pool working on a good tan to look like those gorgeous Friden girls. The only summer my skin was even close to the same color as them was the year I was a lifeguard. Curse that lifeguard job. I'd give back the $700 I made that whole summer for some porcelain skin.

Geez, she's a sweaty kid. Is that normal? Should I send out Christmas cards this year? Will my Christmas decorations work in our new house? I need to clean my house. I'll do it today. I said that yesterday then went to the park. I'm a horrible housekeeper. But at least that makes me approachable--you know, flaws. I hope people think I'm genuine. But would I genuinely want people to see my house like this? No. I wouldn't even let a repair man witness this mess if my toilet was flooding over."

At some point during this fascinating, introspective thought process, the kid stirred and woke up. Sweaty and confused. With this face. And this hair.

Did you just read the Tao of Pooh? Or, were you just pondering it? It is so funny that you mentioned it because I read it like, 12 years ago, and I was JUST thinking about it yesterday, and got it out this morning to skim through. I was going to copy a passage for my friend who is a "Bisy Backson".
I loved that book.
Oh, and cute picture.

NOT FAIR. I totally know this reference... and you know it. Can I just make good on that lunch next time we're in the same town?

Al, I KNEW it would be you. Yup, lunch is on me. In like 10 months. When we see each other again. That's crazy! I have to come home sooner.

funny post! I'm glad to know others minds are as random as mine:) Nothing like a sweaty little baby either! SO cute

Oh and I am reading the Tao of Pooh right now for book club. I'm not very far because I fall asleep the minute my head hits a pillow these days. Great minds think alike! Or at least ponder the same books.

um, im with you on the pure and perfect skin. growing up with a dermatologist dad, sunscreen was encouraged and enforced, but not always obeyed by his children:) oh how i wish i would have been better about that also. my freckles are kicking me for that one. i do love how the trend for some time now has been pure white skin instead of thick, leathery tanned skin.

anyway, you're too funny. I love reading your thought processes. i am glad you are genuine. it makes you more real. im not the best housekeeper lately either:)

Better Off Dead.

"Comment allez-vous?"
"No thanks, I already had breakfast."

Classic.

Who's that kid in the picture? Can't be Abbey! She looks way too old! :)

I would like to comment on the sweaty kid part of your thought process. Luke is the sweatiest kid alive; and I first noticed it as an infant. If you touched the bottom of his feet you swore he just stepped in a puddle of water! Hopefully they will grow out of it! That's what I tell myself! But even if she is sweaty she is still completely adorable:)

Is that Abbey??? :) Two big teeth came in it looks like! :) Love your thoughts - I agree with the house thing. Seems like no one stops by when it is tidy and you always get a surprise visit when it is messy. Ah well.

I love how honest & (genuine) your writing is. I feel for ya on the kid waking up at the crack of dawn. But envy you for having a child that will fall back asleep on you. That never happens to me. And, yes you should send out Christmas cards this year. I am expecting one!

Better Off Dead! How old is Abbey?

17 months. But I like to think of it as 1 month away from nursery!
