Please Take Your Seat

Bow. Bow to the Yard Sale King. I have a whole post's worth of the treasures we've found this summer. By the end of July, the King had me hooked. And this is what he brought home this week for THREE dollars. Three. Three dollars.

Five perfect chairs for the five kiddos I'll have in my home for preschool every other month. I know, hold back your excitement. But don't hold back on the creative input: what colors do I paint them? Two are a dark shade of red that I'm kinda loving since the paint is old and chipping a bit ( i love that look ). But the other three are royal blue and forest green. I don't really go for primary colors. So what would you do? Red and light blue? Browns? The girls' room is going to be robin egg blue and deep oranges, so I keep going back to that, but the chairs wouldn't be in there. So do tell, what are the trendy colors these days?

{In other news, they chopped down the weeds in my backyard that were making for some great photo taking the last few months. Pffft.}

What a great find! You can barely buy a kids meal or a gallon of gas, let alone 5 kids chairs for $3. I am jealous, I must admit. I have been debating whether or not to do an kids table with mini chairs in our kitchen right now. My vote for colors: mint green or pale yellow...those could work with red.

what a steal!!! perfect!

i'm not much of a red person actually. cranberry color ...cute. red red, not so much my taste. plus i can't think of any colors that i'd love with red b/c it's just so "bold". i'd go with a cute bright turquoise, paired with a more subtle orange, cream, and pale yellow.

those are perfect for a preschool. how cute!

I like the orange idea, plus maybe a good olivey green.
Ummm just a thought, that red may be a lead based paint. You may want to test it and make sure it's safe, otherwise by the end of the school year you may be teaching a speacial ed class. Know what I mean vern.
Otherwise, tell the king I am looking for some cool chairs that I can revamp for my house.

Lead paint. The bane of my existence right now. I keep finding cool old antique things I want, and J shoots it down pretty fast. Some things I convinced him to keep, but under the condition that I sand paper every square inch of paint. I'm pretty sure these aren't that old, they looked like they were painted about 10 years ago.

Yay for you, but BOOOOOO! I never find anything good at yard sales. Unfair. (Btw, look at you being brave to host preschool. Tell me more.)

I think robin's egg blue.

i just re read my comment. oops it sounded a little... pushy? i really should read things before actually publishing them:) lol. i'll blame it on the kid that was crawling on my legs the whole time. whatever you choose ash will be so darling because you have great taste. just because i couldn't picture red, doesn't mean it wouldn't look great. after all, i am no expert by any means! if you love red, go with it. i did a search of decorators pics and found some cute pictures online of colors that look fabulous with red. i emailed them over to you... if it were me, i'd make sure you love whatever colors you choose in multiple rooms. i.e. choose colors that will look good with the girl's room color scheme as well as the kitchen or wherever you're placing the chairs during preschool.

have fun!

JUST after I read this post (and melted, btw) I ran down the stairs and had a rare glimpse into a downstairs neighbor's apartment (this never, ever happens. I mean - I suspect there are other people living in this building, but I have never actually seen into another apartment save it be the one weird one that props their dark apartment open with an old ratty shoe each morning. but even then, it's SO dark in there. But I digress...)

So these neighbors had a rug in their entryway - gasp! Loved it! Robins egg blue and bright red. Yummy.

Three bucks??!! For real?? What a steal!! I like the red and blue idea for paint. A fun bright/lime green might be cute, too. Your girls are WAY too darling! I little Abbey's feet restin' on the chair.
Happy painting!

I bow to the King of Yardsales! Sweet find, dude.

When I did a co-op preschool, one of the other families had a table with four colored chairs. The kids had knock down/drag out fights over who got to sit in the red chair. One of the other moms even wrote a children's book about it called "The Red Chair." I love Allegra's suggestions, but I'm just sayin' . . .
