Be Here Now

I like to think I'm a genuine person. That I don't change who I am depending on who I'm with. But lately I feel like I've been rolling back into stages of my past. And parts of me revert back to the person I was at the time. Like a little part of me still gets some attitude when I'm doing dishes at my mom's house :)

Saturday I was my normal, trying to keep my cool, disciplining, mommy self. Then my little sis scored us some tickets and game day shirts to the USU v. BYU game down at the Delta Center. (Energy Solutions Arena...whatever. I refuse to call it that.) Side note--I love this shirt. It says "Win or Lose, You Still Have to Live in Provo." Thanks Megs, we had a great time!

OK, so USU barely lost but our fans outfanned the cougars, hands down. Which was why we were at the Delta Center in the first place--BYU refuses to play in our home court anymore. Pansies. I miss those Aggie basketball games and found myself screaming, booing, singing the Scotsman song, doing the maynard dance, laughing at J when he lost his voice after the first half. I was my freshman self.

As we were walking out, I ran into a bunch of the fellas from my Masters classes. Immediate switch. It was all handshakes and diplomacy.

Then I shed the hubby and headed down to Thanksgiving Point to catch a party with my friends from K-Ville. We were singing our hearts out to that American Idol game and most of the conversation revolved around our kiddos and residency interviews. We got in a good discussion about parenting, joy, and being our true selves. Quite different from the cheering gal screaming 'Sit Down' to the fouled out BYU player just hours earlier.

So my question--is it that bad? To change who you are? Don't different environments and people mandate different personalities? I like to think it just brings out different parts of my personality. I'm a complicated lady, people.

Don't worry Ashley, everyone is like that. I had to quit church ball because it brought out one of my, not-so-pleasant-personatlities!I LOVE the shirts! If you haven't figured it out already, I'm a BYU hater...and proud!!!
(be sure to post where you will be doing residency as soon as you know, I'm dying to see where everyone is going to end up)

I was in SLC saturday too! It's too bad we didn't run into each other and that we didn't make it back in time for the Lutters.

I love it! I remember going to the football games with you guys and being big and pregnant!! Lots of energy from those Aggies...

Ryan was losing it when he watched that game on TV. Disappointing.

Ryan gives me crap about acting like a teenager whenever I'm hanging out with my highschool friends. I think it means you are well-rounded and adaptable. Either way it has to be good, right?

The BYU fan coming out in me must post this to your comment...I am not such a BYU nerd but Adam asked around on cougarboard and this is the reply as to why it is played at Energy Solutions aka Delta Center:

"The USU side of the story is the Tom Holmoe and Dave Rose are both dishonest cowards that didn't dare to set foot in the Cache Valley because they're unbeatable there.

Mr. Haddow pointed out that despite what the aggie fans are saying about BYU going against a contract to play them there, there was actually no valid contract at the time and it was being negotiated for a 3 game deal. Both coaches wanted to have 2 of the 3 played at their own arena and it was BYU that finally said they would play the Aggies on a neutral court before resuming the so called rivalry in Logan with the last game being in Provo.

The Aggies claim that it was their turn even though they'd played something like 3 of the last 4 in Logan and that any future contract should have been negotiated to reflect where the last game was played and so Logan was the rightful place.

There were some hard feelings. The neutral court was a way to get things going again with no one being a winner/loser.

After the loss on Saturday the Aggies are saying that they don't ever want to play us again in anything..."

So, there ya go...not because BYU are pansies, but because a nuetral court was decided to stop both sides from crying:)

Win or lose, you still have to live in Provo...... I LOVE IT! And, I went to BYU!

Hmmm...I still like to think pansies :) Come on, we have to get some redemption from getting slaughtered in football. And didn't you come with me to a game up in Logan once? Remember how brutal the fans can be? Honestly, sometimes I'm embarassed.

I saw an episode of "How I Met Your Mother" about this. They called it "revertigo." Sadly, I develop a Southern accent when I talk to some of my college friends. What?

first off, so happy you got to hang with your little sis, you guys are hotties *hooting and hollering*. I have only met a handful of people that are always their same selves no matter the circumstance. It is hard for me not to switch modes, but also I think we have to. I mean, my college co-ed self sleep right through the baby crying in the night. It is a tricky balance but makes for a great post. nicely done *hand shake* .

I definitely think it's o.k. to have different personalities with the people you are with. That's just how it is sometimes. I"m glad you made it to the mommy chat time. By the way, if you go check out my blog, you will see how I posted a great picture of you unleashing your wild rock side of your personality :)

We have many sides, if we didn't, life would be boring. You weren't always a mother, a wife or even an adult. If I am on a date with justin or on a vacation, I like to live it up a little without my kids, keeps us young.

Something about sporting events brings something nasty out of me, too. I didn't know you've been in town this whole time. I can't wait to see your little baby:)

It's definitely not changing who you are, all of it is who you are. It is just called not being a social-retard and knowing how to act and what is acceptable in certain situations. Oh how I miss seeing that Maynard dance though!! I don't think I ever went to a basketball game and saw you do it there, but I remember Allegra doing it all the time around the dorm...and then she would laugh, more of a cackle or whatever, at the top of her lungs. Good times :)
