I'm Concerned

While thumbing through a catalog we got in the mail the other day, I came across this:

I was further disturbed when I found this:

Ok, I kind-of like that one. But seriously, what nerdy profession did I just align myself with? {And YES, I know I shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition. But after a few minutes of thinking how to restructure the sentence, I sadly realized I was being even nerdier!!}

My concern deepened as I looked at all the other super classy stuff that showed up along side these sweatshirts in the catalog.

I don't know how we got on the mailing list for this thing, but I'm oh so glad. I find them amusing. And they make me think of my old, sweet piano teacher who always had them lying around and got a kick out of actually buying the stuff.

{Dangit! It was driving me crazy so I had to look up the correct term, is it 'lying' or 'laying'? It's lying. And I quote:

"The verb lie ('assume a horizontal or resting position') is often confused with the verb lay ('put something down'), giving rise to incorrect uses such as: he is laying on the bed (correct use is | he is lying on the bed).

Somebody stop me!!!}

Ashley! You totally read my mind. I almost just skimmed through the post so I could leave a comment about those catalogues reminding me of Mrs. Greenwell. But alas, I couldn't tear myself away from your wit, so I read on and found you made the same connection. Good times. Sisters.

And lying... laying... I always think of something not moving as lying. So the act of just lying there is, well, lying. I think of something as being acted upon as laying, as in "lay that on the table."

Haha!! You are so funny! I always wonder about things like that too, but I'm way too lazy to look them up. I love the pepper grinder.
