OK, I Give

Yoga Pose for MySpace

Oi, I'm pregnant. I am SOOO pregnant. It hit me hard this week. The back muscles are aching from supporting the imbalance of my front. I have to wake up and exert effort to roll over at night. Abbey's back completely arches when she sits in my lap to read stories. My belly button popped out and you can see it through my clothes, ha ha! There's more, but my dad reads this so I'll stop :)

J mentioned my uncomfortableness and my forgetful mind in his prayers last night. I don't know what he's talking about or what I forgot but I guess I have that to worry about as well.

But today was the kicker.

I went to a yoga class with a different instructor than the sweet, encouraging one I've been going to. He took one look at me and demanded, 'How far along are you?'. A little over seven months. He gave me a doubtful look so I said 'I'll do my own thing if you want to do stuff on your back.' I sensed his skeptical eyes on me for about 45 minutes through the mirror. I was doing fine then BAM. I blacked out! What the... I admitted defeat, rolled up my mat, and left. Dang it! I so needed to prove him wrong today. I've been thinking all day about the smirk he must have had as I left the room.

And that picture is not me. Maybe it will be.

I had a similar, but not-pregnant experience last week at yoga. This was the day I ran to the gym and tripped over my own feet on my way there :). This man next to me (I never strike up conversation with strangers in classes...) starts chatting with me and asked how long I'd done yoga. He was polite, but I felt a certain "you are a poser here" vibe from him when I said I'd done a little here and there, any mostly Pilates, but that I'd been coming to these classes since January. I felt, to avoid any "you should really work on THIS" conversation post-class that I needed to prove how great I am at yoga... but there were so many moves that weren't jiving with my banged and bloody knees that I finally just wiggled my way out of pigeon and admitted defeat. Blast.

I suppose our genes are keeping us from yoga greatness. Sister.

Hang in there, don't let someone else be your discouraging factor. I think that it is amazing that you were there.

What is it with the yoga snobbery? One would hope that true yogics would encourage and support the newbies rather than disparage their attempts, however many times they black out or have skinned knees. Where is that peaceful, centered mind?
PS - I too love that you went - keep it up but avoid that blacking out thing.

Rule #1 about going to work out while pregnant: Always keep a can of slim-fast next to you for some quick energy when you think you are fading fast.

Gotta love that last 2 months...It is so fresh on my mind. I STILL feel so light and agile when I roll into bed. And my baby is 6 months!

You're a rock. I love your energy. That guy didn't have an ounce of umpha on you.

Yikes, I can't believe you blacked out. That's scary. I know what you mean about wanting to prove him wrong!
