I Feel the Earth.Move.Under My Feet

With last night's earthquake and tornado season upon us, I think we might have most of the earth's natural disasters covered here. I woke up about 4:40 this morning to the bed shaking and the doors rattling. It seemed to go on forever. Truly, it wasn't that scary. I didn't feel like our house was going to cave in or anything. But a few disturbing thoughts kept me up for a while:

(1) I always thought in that situation I would run and grab my babies. I was totally frozen. If we had been closer to the epicenter (registering somewhere between a 4.5 and 5.2. I don't know what that means) and felt it more strongly, would I have time or the presence of mind to get to her?

(2) I've had a nagging feeling to update our 72-hour kits and haven't done it yet. We'll do that today :) Food storage isn't too shabby right now, but if we had to evacuate, I wouldn't even have diapers for the kiddo.

(3) Justin barely stirred. He thought I was just turning over. Yes, it is a process for me to turn over at night.

Okay, that's scary. It's amazing what instincts kick in and what don't in a time of need. That is for sure.

Hey Guys,
How are you? It is good to see you all cute and pregnant! You have a darling little girl. Where are you guys at now? We are in North Salt Lake and loving it. It is fun to see people from our old ward. I am glad that you were safe during the earthquake. I have been getting our 72 hour kit updated also. There is just a nagging feeling to get prepared!
Hope to hear from you soon. Our blog is tobyanddebby.blogspot.com

i'm always afraid i'll freeze in an emergency also. like those dreams where the ax murderer is chasing you but your feet/legs are so heavy they won't budge. hate those ones. different situation, but same panic state:) ash, that's so scary! i'm glad it wasn't too serious. and glad you're ok!

I laughed so hard at #3. Ain't that the truth! At least that's how I feel at 8 months pregnant.

What a coincidence! When I was 8 months preg, I felt the earth move under me, too. Only It wasn't an earth quake, it was just me walking. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
