Need a Pretty Project?
My friend, Missy, did a blog post about the owl shirt and paired it with an adorable tulle skirt. I've seen these around and in boutiques and always thought it was something I could probably figure out and not pay boutique prices for it.
Turns out, pretty easy! Basically ruffle two long, 3-inch wide layers of tulle together, make a tiered skirt out of the same color, and top stitch the ruffled tulle right on the seams of the skirt. Find the much more detailed tutorial here.
I always buy more fabric than I end up needing and bought twice as much tulle as I needed. But then the girls had two birthday parties last week, so I sewed up a few more, threw in a crocheted flower clip, and we were good to go. All four skirts cost me less than $20. The tutorial calls for at least 2 yards of tulle per skirt but I only needed a little over one. Maybe I was making smaller skirts. But I say get yourself a bunch (it's cheap) and make a few extra for the little girlies in your life.
These pictures don't make it seem as frilly as they actually are. Trust me, these babies are twirl-able fun!

You make it sound like this was thrown together, but look at the styling on top of the awesome skirt! I love how you've packaged the crochet flower clips and the sweet tights on Abbey. And, as always, your photos are the most pure and restful I've ever seen. Sigh. I need to calm down. :)
That's Hayden! I was actually just thinking how much Hayden looks like Abbey now, especially with her hair pulled up like that and wearing Abbey's old clothes.
very cute idea. i totally have the same socks as hayden's tights. twins.
i think that your kids would look completely cool and adorable in rags. that's just how i feel.
So cute! You are so talented. Miss us so much. Hayden is getting so big.
Ashley...tell me...what don't you do?! I swear, you are the QUEEN at everything! You are talented beyond measure!
Oh my goodness....those skirts are so precious! I think I might need to attempt this!
Adorable!! Hayden's face in the first picture is pretty hard to compete with! :) Way darling idea...and you threw in the cute crocheted flower hair clip, too! Lucky Abbie. :)
these pictures are so cute! did you use an action on them? the warm tone is awesome. and I love the bw family picture too. such talent. wish you lived in ohio ;) but glad we can be blog friends. I do know the johnsons. they were in the other ward, but i took pictures of their cute family once.
I was wondering what kind(size) of yard/thread you used on the fabric flowers? I've tried making them, but it seems my yard is either too thick or thin...other than that, they turn out how I want...
So cute...easy for YOU To make...I guarantee you I could screw it up!!! Really cute though
Those are so cute!!! If I had just had a girl I would put in an order with you right away. But, I don't think Adam would be very happy if he came home and Wyatt was wearing one:)
