A few months ago I randomly got two requests for crocheted flowers in the same week. Nicole wanted some clips for her sweet Bridget and Tristie wanted yarn ones to go on her sweet beanies. In return? Perfect matching Halloween bags from Nicole, and to-die-for handmade beanies from Tristie. Not a bad reason to bring the ol' crochet hooks out of storage.
I started this hobby last Christmas when J's mom saw me looking at crocheted flowers on etsy. {My cousin, Jen, sent me some attached to hair clips for Abbey when Hayden was born, and I was smitten; I had never seen anything like it.} My mother-in-law can figure out anything crafty and by that afternoon, she was showing me how to make them myself.
I love working with my hands on stuff like this. My New Year's goal is to learn how to knit, I know I would really enjoy that. People here think I'm odd. I stay at home, I sew, I crochet, I grind my own wheat (that one really got them!) I was finishing up a flower at my friend's house on Sunday and she said I'm the oldest 26 year old she's ever met :) But I just can't think of many things more charming than something knit with love.
Tristie wrote me a sweet note when she sent the beanies and said she loved thinking of my girls as she made them. And every time I put them on, I think of that and her. You just don't get the love feelings with an Old Navy hat.
So it's been a while since the kids have had the lens stuck in their faces. They didn't know what to do with it. Here's pretty much what I was getting this morning:

I wish you could teach me how to do those. I have made beanies before but I don't know how to do the cute flowers. I assume they would not take as long as the beanie itself, right? Because they take me a really long time. But I am in need of a beanie for Kylee this year and I haven't found anything that great on the shelf at Old Navy or Target so maybe...
How precious. I love the color of your chairs too! It's fun being crafty.
love it, ash! actually when i was in UT for thanksgiving, one of the baby girl things Tara gave me was a cute crocheted clip for our baby girl and i LOVE it. my mom is a wizard at this stuff like your MIL, too. when she visits in Jan I'll have to get her to teach me how to whip up this genius-ness. I keep telling her she needs to sell her rocking beanies she always knits for Max on etsy or something. the woman's got skillz.
p.s. last photo. totally ashley face. to the t. :)
oh and kind of random, i just took pics of the cutest little girl who had that same grey sweater hayden is wearing. random, but just sayin'. girl clothes are so cute. i'm having too much fun shopping for this stuff.
Oh my those are the cutest little flowers! What kind of yarn????...Ok and I'm also loving Hayden's little attitude thru her eyes :)
That's totally funny what you said about the Old Navy hat...because I bought Brynlee a hat from O.N. the other day...Haha, I'm totally not offended because I completley agree. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
I love love love Hayden's face in the last photo! And I love those hats!
Oh, I am loving Hayden's "Krinnie faces" in the last two pictures! Soooo cute! You are amazing :)
Boy am I having deja vu! When we went in the army 35 yrs. ago, my neighbor at Ft.Bragg said she had lived in Alaska and, "can you believe it - she grinds her own wheat!" Also, I was having fun crocheting those spiral hair bows (spiral/twisty section, long straight section, more spiral/twisty section - we used the long section to tie a bow around the pigtails, then the twisty things hung down. Really cute!) for my two little dolls. Your flowers are darling, as are your little dolls.:)
I left out that my neighbor was talking about her neighbor in Alaska. Should have proof-read since I don't know how to correct it. Sorry
I am laughing out loud. I looked at the first pics and thought, "hmm... Hayden's not really diggin' the photos today." I didn't realize there was even more awesomeness awaiting me in the last few :).
You definitely should learn how to knit. I learned a few years ago, and it's been so much fun. It doesn't have the same chunky texture that you get with a crochet stitch, but it does make a more refined, elegant stitch (in my opinion, anyway). I've made baby blankets for my little guy and some friends' babies as well. There are some pics of what I've done in my blog archives. By the looks of it, you'd pick it up really quickly!
ADORABLE!!! Do you take orders?
OH my goodness those last few pictures make my heart happy! They are so cute!
ADORABLE! I LOVE THEM. My sister-in-law had some for her little girl and I knew Miss E needed to have some. I've been working on a flower....since August. :) You should totally learn to knit---the possibilities Ash. :) Those flowers on those beanies totally make them!
cute girls! I've been trying to get my crocheted flowers to look as good as yours since you taught me last year but still no luck and now your's look even better!!! I love them.
